rio's... a special boy. he's basically a big ball of evil, manipulative genius, wrapped up in a complex web of lies and completely encased in ego. he's an actor, meaning he's able to hide his emotions perfectly, making him an excellent liar, and a psychology nerd. he views others as below him, and tends to treat them with a sort of patronising interest, often manipulating them into situations for his own gain. he often diagnoses other characters in everyday situations, examining them and storing away everything he can learn about them for later use, and believe me, he will use it.

gabe's a great guy, if you take the trouble to treat him with a little respect. he takes care of those people he cares about, and he's very affectionate. however, he is a bit of an alpha male, and he tends to bring out the testosterone in most of his male students, which invariably leads to a fight. he is 6"5, which gives him a slight advantage, but he doesn't like having to beat up his students. he moved to america from britain a few years ago, married josephine hudson and started st dympha's.

maddy. well... maddy. he's really hard to describe; his bipolar can make him seem like two different people. when he's high, he buzzes, and when he's low, he's murderous.
he tries not to annoy people, but he can be a pain the arse. he can be painfully dense at times, and gives off the impression of naivety. however, he is the opposite of naive; he spent two years working in the streets of a chicago slum as a prostitute, and sex is constantly on his mind, along with drugs, alcohol and gambling. he doesn't try to hide his past, or his sexuality; in fact, he's very open about it. maddy's surprisingly thick-skinned, able to take most insults lightly, except when he's low. he has a history of self-harm, and at times he can be extra senstitive. if you make friends with him, though, he can be funny, kind, caring and gentle.

"I'm bipolar, by the way, and I'm high right now so I tend to talk a lot when I'm like this and generally when I stop it's only because I need to breathe, but it sure as hell beats the rest of the time when I'm liable to bite your head off for looking at me, just warning you."

evan's not a very pleasant person. he's rude, unfriendly, and uncooperative, with tendancies towards sadism (which generally doesn't show, but bursts out occasionally). he can be friendly, if you talk to him about the right things or catch him in the right mood, but it is difficult. he's in a tough situation; he's got conduct disorder and sadism, which makes him a very easy person to dislike, but the fact that he is disliked makes his depression kick in, and he gets sad. he doesn't show it, though, and after sixteen years of hiding his emotions, it's hard to tell when he's upset and when he's just being himself.

"Let's see... I'm severely depressed, locked in a mental hospital on the other side of the country from my brother, I've now got a criminal record which means it'll be hard for me to get a decent job if I'm ever released back into the world, and my life is basically ruined."

oh, boy... where to begin? he's emotionally dead; he quite literally has an emotional spectrum that ranges from mild irritation to faint amusement, to a kind of detached sympathy, depending on what's appropriate. he's all washed out.
jarrad's good with the control; the only psychiatrist on the team ever to get through a therapy session with morph brown without ever having to threaten to call security; the only one to get jessica air to admit to not having control over everything. this might have something to do with his persistent calm, his stubborness, or his uncompromising way of staring at people until they do what he wants. on the rare occasion things don't go his way, he'll just ignore them until they do, which usually works pretty well.
while it seems unlikely, he does have a sense of humour, albiet of the dryest, most ironic kind. throw plenty of sarcasm into a conversation with him, and you'll be on the list of People Who Can Hold Decent Conversations. he regards other people as walking case studies, and examines his colleagues just as thoroughly as he does his patients. he's a details nut, obsessively so, and the stubbornest person you'll ever come across. perhaps also the most detached.

fiercely independent, rather aloof, emotionally unstable and unshakably loyal if he comes to like you, manuel is a complex character. he's initially very quiet, conduct disorder coming into play there, but he'll open up to you if you persist. try not to put him under too much stress or he'll explode on you, and you'll end up covered in bits of blood and guts; not necessarily his, either. he doesn't get on well with males his own age, tending to be a bit of an alpha male, but he's the ladies' best friend; a perfect gentlemen, unless you're a complete pain in the arse, in which case he reverts to being a sullen, scary teenager. if you get through to him, though, you'll find in him a great friend.

finn is... well. at fifteen, he's extremely mature, probably because he's had to act big brother, father, best friend and guardian angel to ash, who he cares about more than anything and who relies on him heavily.
he's smart, aloof, doesn't really give a crap about other people or their opinions, is capable of hiding his emotions completely, even during one of his ied moments, and has a habit of trying to kill himself when he's low. his shrink doesn't know that, though; only ash knows that. he's highly opinionated, very cynical, impatient and slightly self-centred (or ash-centred). he takes everything with a hint of irony, often mocking others or, his favourite subject, society in general. he doesn't care much for the feelings of others, and has a habit of getting up mid-sentence and walking away from a conversation he finds boring.

with ash hanging around constantly, there's not much chance for it. if you can get him alone, though, he'll probably become a lot more interesting. he has pretty high standards though, be warned.
