Dear Gabe,
I hope my letter finds yourself, Jo, students and staff well.
As you know, I left suddenly to care for my sister, who was gravely ill. I am sorry to tell you she died early this morning. As the funeral will be tomorrow, I wish to forgo compassionate leave and return to my post at St. Dympha’s as soon as possible. I believe I can be with you in a week (I would offer to be there sooner but for an unfortunate aversion to air travel,) as my brother in law and his family are content to deal with my sister’s affairs.
I will resume my duties upon arrival, and am keen to resume treatments with my patients, who have no doubt been disrupted by my absence. I hope there have been no serious disruptions to routine in my absence.
Yours, Peter.
